Episode 2010: False World, I Trust You Not!

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Never go for the simple explanation when there's a huge convoluted theory that needs several weird circumstances and unlikely events to all happen together.

This goes just as much for GMs writing adventures as for players, by the way.

I'm amused that the group is going for one of the more unlikely explanations for why the map doesn't match after last comic's commentary, except....

...

We already know Nute is still around, and he's basically this type of malware now. If he was able to computerize himself, why can't others? Maybe the reason for Luke's expedition was to chase down and contain a second digital entity or the source of how this is possible. Back-up brain scans gone rogue anyone?

In-movie, Kanata looks really shocked at Han's poor attempts at recruitment. Or perhaps Kanata's already joined the Resistance, and he's just been given the bad news about the compromised Resistance bases since he's been hanging out in a bar. Or maybe the price of death sticks just skyrocketed and isn't coming down any time soon due to a finding noticed on the map BB-8 projected.

... It's a lot more difficult guessing about the movie scenes when it's just people talking.

Transcript

Darth Kanata: If we assume your map is correct, but it doesn’t match the charts...
Yanni: Yes?
Darth Kanata: That means...
Finn: The charts are wrong?
Darth Kanata: Exactly.
Rey: But how? They’re standard navigation charts, aren’t they?
GM: Yes, it’s public information, available anywhere.
Finn: They can’t all be wrong.
Darth Kanata: So it has to be deliberate. That would require two things: access to secure archives, and widespread reach.
BB-8: Hmmm. The changes would have to propagate, like some kind of malware.
BB-8: A self-modifying worm exploiting peer-to-peer consistency checks to insert false data into every system.
Darth Kanata: God damn it! I hate this hacker crap!
BB-8: The use of tech for malign purposes? The jargon?
Darth Kanata: The smug showing off.
