Episode 1936: Where There’s Snoke, There’s Ire

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

You can introduce overbearing superiors to roughly good-aligned heroes without too much risk that things will go pear-shaped. But with villains there's nothing inherent to their nature to stop them from reacting very badly.

Respect and willingness to follow authority keeps good minions in line. Fear keeps evil minions in line. If you're an evil overlord and your minions don't fear you... you may have trouble.

Hmm, I suspect that Sally might not enjoy the twist of finding out that the First Order works for Nute Gunray. I wonder if we'll see Kylo going along with Nute's demands after this outburst; the other time I remember something like this happening was literally years ago both in comic and out. At that time, Sally hadn't had all of the life experiences she's had since then, including the game that Corey ran where she ran the villain. I think we'll end up with Kylo plotting on how to overthrow Nute and kill them for good, if there isn't an immediate split into the three sides like I thought would happen.

Kylo Ren, both in comic and in movie, seems to have a temper problem. Vader started that way in the movies, but mellowed out later at least in terms of smashing everything around him. Another intentional parallel between Kylo and Vader, or just something that happens when a Force user is careless or following the Dark Side? Given the usual lack of lightsaber destruction by Vader from what I remember, I'm leaning towards a trait Dark Side users can have. Hm. Or maybe, in comic terms at least, Kylo is somewhere on the Path to the Crazy Side.

Did I say something about "If the players knew who their boss was, their behavior would be different"?

On the whole issue of "What is a game", on the whole "character knowledge vs player knowledge", these characters have no reason to think anything other than "Boss" about Nute Gunray the computer voice. But as players...

Then, there's the whole visible guard here. Sally's Kylo has just destroyed massive amounts of government/military property, computer systems for the ship they are on, etc. - I'd expect Kylo to be arrested and charged.

So, yea, this is unexpected.

Well, the GM should be happy about one thing. No one went "Nute who?"
