Episode 150: Plumbing New Depths

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

If one of your players is a certified expert on something that will be coming up in your game, the best thing to do to avoid them nitpicking your valiant, yet ultimately doomed, attempts at realism is to recruit them to your purpose.

Then they can defend you against the stings and barbs of the other players. And sometimes you end up with just plain cool stuff coming out of it too.

Transcript

Ric Olié: There it is: Naboo.
Ric Olié: It's a temperate world, with big rivers and majestic waterfalls, all connected by an underground ocean system.
Anakin: How does that work?
Obi-Wan: That's what we've all been wondering.
Qui-Gon: The GM had me figure out the physics. Tidal forces squeeze the porous rock structure, pushing water up through springs and geysers, feeding the rivers above the waterfalls.
Obi-Wan: And at low tide?
Qui-Gon: The water is flowing along the river beds by then, so very little gets drawn back to the interior.
Obi-Wan: Surely that can't work.
Qui-Gon: The tides are much lower in the seas because of the open geography. Want to see the equations?
{beat}
Obi-Wan: Is that why this planet suddenly has a huge moon now? {shot showing moon}
GM: It was there all along. I swear.
