Episode 823: And He Does His Little Turn on the Catwalk

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Maps are a vital component in many games. Players will make maps to remember where their characters are within a dungeon. GMs will hand out maps as navigation aids, or as a deferred sort of treasure. The treasure map is a significant literary device that cannot be overlooked for gaming potential. PCs in modern games will have instant access to detailed maps of all sorts via the Internet.

But maps don't always have to be correct, or complete. The best sorts of maps will have large empty regions with dragons drawn on them. Whether there are really dragons is a matter for speculation...

Transcript

Obi-Wan: Okay, I'm at the, quote, memorial garden rotunda walkway, unquote.
R2-D2: Good, good. Use the stepping stones to approach the ornate fountain.
Obi-Wan: I'm on a metal catwalk. Over a giant gaping pit.
R2-D2: See the orange blossom trees?
Obi-Wan: Um. No.
R2-D2: Even your Spot roll can't be that bad. Let me check the map.
{Some clone troopers are standing on a nearby catwalk, from where Obi-Wan is hidden from view}
Clone Trooper 1: {softly} Did you see that memo from Lord Vader? We get one warning choke now.
Clone Trooper 2: {softly} Yeah, I'm going to use mine to tell a Rebel I love him.
R2-D2: No, this is the most recent update. It says the Lost Orb is displayed as the fountain's centrepiece. Do you see it?
Obi-Wan: O-kaay. I'll check the "fountain".
R2-D2: You might need to flip the waterfall drainage switch so you can reach the Orb.
Obi-Wan: Let me just hack through this jasmine thicket and past the gnome topiaries.
R2-D2: Huh. The plan says fairies. Looks like they've made some changes.
