Episode 2230: Heavy: Han Dead

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Ah, the cliffhanger ending. It's not often employed in roleplaying games. Mostly a session ends during some sort of down time between encounters, not in the middle of something exciting. And if the GM does decide a cliffhanger is to be used, it'll usually be mid-adventure, with the promise that things will pick up again next week.

Doing it here, at the end of an adventure, is a bit unusual. But then, we've seen that this GM likes to keep the players on their toes.

As this marks the end of The Forced-Away Kin, the next three strips will be an intermission, followed by the beginning of our treatment of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

........ Are you freakin' kidding me? This is how the movie ends? Pardon me for a bit, my desk could use some more head-shaped dents in it.

........

Ok. Like. I just said movies don't do this kind of thing, and yet here we are finally at the iris out ending. Spinning camera too by the looks of it. I don't think there's many movies that do the post-credits thing besides the MCU, but both franchises are owned by Disney, so it's possible there's one of those that happens. I actually hope that's the case, because this seems like such a bizarre note to end the movie on.

Rey's not directly related to Han and Leia? Sure, why not. She's Luke's kid as well? Alright, more plot points to look forward to along with Rey's reaction, but now there's the whole movie ending getting in the way of that! Even if this lifted from the movie and had foreshadowing as clear as Jim's writing, that still doesn't make this a great last moment! Not even a mediocre one! It's like someone said "Wait! We gotta quickly rip through these last few plot points so people have something to gush over until next week's Episode!" And the missing statement that should have followed that? "Hold on, that's how our Disney+ Episodes work, and this is a movie with like a 3-year release window!"

I feel really weird now with the actual ending to the Episode being shown. Maybe with more time to think about things or knowing whatever the actual context is in the movies, I'd be super hyped for the next movie like I heard people were, but this? I'm feeling like Pete!
