Episode 2071: Blast from the Pa

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Should you fire into situations where you may hit an ally? Let's examine the possibilities:

  1. You hit your ally. Well, it was kind of inevitable, really. So no nasty surprise there.
  2. You miraculously hit your intended target, barely missing the ally, and save the day with a miracle shot that will go down in memory and be recounted as legendary every time anyone brings up something vaguely related.

So pretty much zero risk for the chance of a huge reward!

On another note: Never get yourself into a situation where you're close enough to an enemy that an ally might be tempted to take a tricky shot that might hit you.

I'm surprised Finn looks like he actually cares about Rey getting taken. The last time he'd seen her, she'd just told him, "I never want to see you again", at least in-comic. Rey looked upset about something there, so that seems like a good bet for closeish to movie dialog. Plus, there's the whole being-a-spy thing. That can't exactly be written out just like that, and there's not much for other reasons to keep Finn alive rather than shooting him. Hmmm, maybe this is the turning point in the movie where Finn's declared he's on the Resistance side or just after it? That would make for a pretty good (and subverted) pre-asskicking one-liner if that came just as he'd drawn the lightsaber.

I'm also wondering how Kylo plans to prevent their shuttle from being shot down like the other First Order ships. Hostages are only good if both sides know about the hostages. Radio broadcast on Resistance channels? That seems unconventional for Star Wars, but that would probably work best. Everyone on the ground would have been presumed killed and unable to report to the attacking ships. Holding Rey up to a window or out on the boarding ramp shouldn't be sufficient visibility for ship to ship. The alternative would be another new Force Power of some kind to block or destroy all of the X-wings, but then that'd raise the question of why not use that to begin with instead of taking a hostage.
