Episode 1734: Bucket List

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

Fire is a good motivator. Both the flaming version and the "lots of projectiles flying through the air" version. If you don't want the PCs to linger somewhere, just set the place on fire.

Of course some players might need a bit more motivation. This is where lava, white-hot plasma, and leaking nuclear reactor fuel come in handy.

[Reminder: Our guest commentators have not seen Rogue One. Part of the fun is seeing how their untainted impressions re-interpret the movie through the lens of our comic.]

So something that a killer GM needs to be aware of: keeping dead players in the game.

I mean, keeping players whose character is dead in the game. (Let's not get into the talk of zombies right now.)

Remember, in-universe, this takes place before campaign four was run. This was supposed to be a one-off adventure. Sally's combat robot, and Pete's 2-body one-mind combo (side note: I am just now thinking back the robot factory, and Sally's 2-body one-mind robot, and Pete saying that this was a good thing that he half expected the rest of them to follow up on.) have died. We have a reinforcement ship in orbit, so to get the players back in the game, we simply have a GM fiat that their other characters happen to be on that ship.

So how do we get these same player/different character characters to know and trust the other player/unknown character characters?

Sally spots that. "Who is this? We've never met.".

And in 3 sentences, the characters of the players, who know nothing about what's going on, suddenly know everything that the players of the characters know.

(Talk about the importance of a comma: that last paragraph reads completely differently if you leave out the commas.)

Transcript

Bria: Thank goodness the plans have finished transmitting. I can re-arm myself. I grab the data crystal!
GM: It <roll>... won't come out.
Bria: I need a weapon to pry it open.
GM: The control panel is on fire.
Bria: Hmm. R2! Are you there? Come in!
R2-D2: Yep! What do you need?
C-3PO: Hang on, who is this? We've never met.
Bria: I'm Jyn Erso. You need to rescue me and Cassian! Because we're important Rebels.
Cassian: And protect the fleet from the Peace Moon. And make sure the plans are secure.
Bria: And blow up the data tower!
R2-D2: Anything else?
Bria: Oh, and if you can give Krennic's corpse a kick on the way, that'd be great too.
