Episode 239: An Underhanded Move

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

The mysterious shadowy figure on the ledge wants to stop the Jedi from finding out what's going on. He has a gun, and a hidden firing position. In the movie, he fires at the assassin he hired, not at the two investigators who will subsequently attempt to track him down, whether they have a decent lead or not. Hmmm. It might have been slightly better to choose different targets, no? Or to keep firing, at least, rather than simply let the Jedi sit there, unprotected, yet unharmed?

Or is the entire thing just a huge Xanatos Roulette on the part of Palpatine, to manoeuvre the Jedi into doing exactly what he wants, by having his hired help act stupidly whenever they get a chance to do any actual damage to the heroes?

It's the only explanation that makes any sense, yet it relies on the major villain being even more insanely, audaciously, ridiculously reliant on bizarre circumstances and coincidences than his underlings.

Or perhaps it's merely all going as he has foreseen it...?

Zam Wessel: I'll tell you everything if you promise to protect me.
Obi-Wan: We promise.
Zam Wessel: It was—
GM: Anakin, you sense danger from above.
Anakin: I look up!
GM: You see a shadowy figure on a ledge. It fires a weapon at you.
Anakin: I use the assassin as a shield.
GM: You... wait... You what??
Obi-Wan: What!?
Anakin: I spin around and interpose her body between me and the shooter. Am I fast enough? I roll a 14.
GM: Uh. Yeah.
Zam Wessel: —huuurk... <gurgle>...
Padmé: {from off-scene} Quick, interrogate her before she dies!
Obi-Wan: We need to save her. Anakin, give me a hand.
{beat}
Obi-Wan: Not that one.
