Episode 642: Gotta Keep 'Em Separated

<<FIRST     <PREVIOUS     NEXT>     LATEST>>

The intertwined fates of parents and offspring is a trope heavy with tradition, from the story of Laius and Oedipus, to Theseus and Ariadne, to Vito and Michael Corleone, to Lorraine (and George!) and Marty McFly, to Livia and Tony Soprano, to Henry Jones and Henry Jones Junior.

For some of this mythical goodness, try throwing relatives of PCs into your campaigns. Imagine if the paladin finds the evil necromancer is her father. Or the grizzled space-freighter captain learns that one of the new crew recruits is the daughter he never knew about. Or two PCs discover they're half-siblings! The dwarf and the elf!

Transcript

Bail Organa: Word on the street is Naboo's been liberated.
Obi-Wan: It has?
Bail Organa: General Binks led the assault, nixed the Feds, and moved the planet back to its original orbit.
Yoda: Makes sense, it does. Jar Jar is the only one who hasn't been acting like a fool.
Bail Organa: Governor Bibble saved most of the people by schmoozing with the Feds. Theed was protected by a force field.
Obi-Wan: Well that's good
Bail Organa: But the Lost Orb of Phanastacoria was... lost.
Obi-Wan: That... not so much. But the main question now is what do we do with the babies?
Yoda: Make sure they do not learn about the Force. Follow their father's footsteps, they must not. Too dangerous they are to keep together.
Bail Organa: I'm tight with a chick on Alderaan who's into kids. She'll take the girl.
Obi-Wan: I'm not sure what Padmé would say about that...
Padmé: {dead} Give her my blaster!
Obi-Wan: Okay, scratch that thought.
